Homemade Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup

INGREDIENTS

UNITS: US

  • 1⁄2 cup cocoa (Hershey’s obviously)
  • 1 cup  sugar

1 cup  water
1 teaspoon  vanilla extract
1 dash salt

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Add water and heat: Pour in the cold water and whisk until completely smooth. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Boil: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring frequently to prevent scorching. Once boiling, let it simmer for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Finish: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Cool and store: The syrup will look quite watery while it is hot, but it will thicken as it cools. Let it cool completely, then pour into a mason jar or a squeeze bottle. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 to 3 months.
